La Plata Park & Marina Hills Park

The Playground Replacement Projects at La Plata Park and Marina Hills Park were focused on the renovation of the playground equipment and surfacing within the existing playground areas at each park location.

The La Plata Park and Marina Hills Park Playground Rehabilitation Projects were under construction in early 2020 when they were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak. The new playground equipment was procured by the City, but was not installed by the contractor when the projects were halted.

The City actively pursued a grant to pay a significant portion of the remaining costs. The City Council adopted Resolution No. 2020-1348 on December 15, 2020 to approve a grant application for Per Capita Grant Funds from the California Department of Parks and Recreation. The City's grant application to the California Department of Parks and Recreation requests that the City's grant funding allocation be applied toward the installation of park playground equipment at La Plata Park and Marina Hills Park. In addition, the City's required 20% funding match will now be funded by American Rescue Plan funds since the projects were delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The projects were on the Laguna Niguel Parks and Recreation Commission's prioritized playground replacement plan. The City awarded a construction contract and construction began in January 2022. The projects were completed in May 2022.

Project Schedule:

  • Start of Construction: January 2022
  • Completion of Construction: May 2022
  • Current Status: Both parks are now open to the public.
