In March 2025, the Arbor Day Foundation officially recognized the City of Laguna Niguel as a “Tree City USA”. City staff will continually monitor the City’s performance against the Arbor Day Foundation’s standards to ensure the City of Laguna Niguel remains a “Tree City USA”.
The City has received reports of eucalyptus tortoise beetles affecting City trees; specifically the Dotted Paropsine Leaf Beetle. While native to Austrailia, these invasive beetles have infested many eucalyptus trees throughout Southern California. The beetles eat and nest in the leaves of the tree. Severe infestiations can cause defoliation and possible death of the tree.
