State law (Section 118286 of the California Health and Safety Code) made it illegal to dispose of sharps waste such as hypodermic needles, lancets, and test strips in the trash or recycling containers and requires that all sharps waste be transported to a collection center in an approved sharps container or other secure containers. Laguna Niguel residents are able to drop off needles, lancets, and other home-generated sharps waste at:
Sea Country Senior and Community Center
24602 Aliso Creek Road, Laguna Niguel, CA 92677 | (949) 425-5151
There is no charge for doing so.
For everyone's safety, residents must place sharps waste in a rigid and puncture-resistant container before leaving home. Loose materials cannot be accepted.
The City collects household batteries from residents in the Sea Country Senior and Community Center lobby and on the second floor of City Hall in the public works lobby. Car batteries are considered Household Hazardous Waste and may be disposed of for FREE at the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility in San Juan Capistrano or by contacting CR&R for a HHW Curbside Pick-Up.
