Recycling Education

Recycling is the practice of recovering used materials from the waste stream and then incorporating those same materials into the manufacturing process. The City's Waste Hauler CR&R Environmental Services provides recycling services to all residences, helping to divert waste from our landfills.

What can be Recycled?

  • Paper Products: newspaper, phone books, catalogs, magazines, brown paper bags, paper packaging, egg cartons, white paper, colored paper, envelopes, junk mail, glossy paper, shredded paper, milk and juice cartons, carbonless paper, flattened cardboard, wrapping paper, etc.,
  • Metal: empty aluminum cans, empty tin cans, empty aerosol cans
  • Plastics: juice containers, drink bottles, clean food containers, loose jar lids, empty CRV Plastic Containers and bottles #1 through #7
  • Glass: empty glass beverage containers, empty glass food containers, all glass colors

Tips for Using Your Recycling Cart

  • Only put loose recycling items in your recycling cart. Do not place items in plastic bags.
  • Lids and labels do not need to be removed from your glass jars.
  • Do not put Styrofoam, window glass, ceramics or Pyrex items in your recycling cart.
  • Flatten cardboard boxes to create more room and prevent blockages in your recycling cart.
  • Rinse jars to remove food waste and empty liquids from bottles before placing them in your recycling cart. 

Recycling Education for Students

In an effort to educate Laguna Niguel students, the City has partnered up with the EcoHero Show to provide an educational experience on the importance of recycling and litter reduction. Utilizing CalRecycle grant funding, the EcoHero show performs at local elementary schools, teaching students how to be an EcoHero every day.
